Baseball, softball teams hit diamond for state playoffs

cfbase-pitchIt’s playoff time on the local diamonds as the SCHSL baseball and softball playoffs get under way Wednesday with the start of double-elimination district tournaments.

The No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Carolina Forest baseball team begins its quest for a Class 4A state title Wednesday against visiting Spring Valley, while the third-seeded Conway softball team hits the road to face second-seeded Summerville. The only other local Class 4A team in action is the fourth-seeded Socastee softball squad, which travels to top-seeded Ashley Ridge on Thursday.

The district playoffs go into full swing Friday with six local teams in action. In Class 3A baseball, No. 1-seeded and No. 8-ranked St. James hosts Lakewood, second-seeded North Myrtle Beach welcomes Marlboro County, and the third-seeded Myrtle Beach travels to Darlington.
