Beach Ball Classic day 1: Seahawks fall in opener

The Myrtle Beach Seahawks struggled through the opening round of the Beach Ball Classic, falling to Long Island Lutheran (NY) by a final score of 90-41.

The Seahawks (5-6) were unable to find a rhythm against the nationally ranked Crusaders, shooting just 23% from the field. Down 53-27 at the half, the Seahawks scored only 14 points in the second period, in a game that had 38 fouls called.

Myrtle Beach was led by Emorie Knox with 13 points. Robert Swanson and O’Neil McBride each contributed 6.

Long Island advances to the quarterfinal round to face Moeller (OH) on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. Myrtle Beach will face Scott County (KY) on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. in the consolation bracket.

Clark 59, Lanett 38 – Clark (NV) defeated Lanett (AL) 59-38 in the opening round of the 2017 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center. Jalen Hill led Clark with 19 points and eight rebounds.  James Bridges added 11 points for the Chargers. Clark used aggressive defense and transition basketball to wear down the Panthers.

With the win, Clark advances to the quarterfinal round to face Cox Mill (NC) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Lanett will face Fairland (OH) on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. in the consolation bracket.

Moeller 60, Scott County 41 – Moeller (OH) defeated Scott County (KY) 60-41 in the opening round of the 2017 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center. Jeremiah Davenport led Moeller with 26 points, 11 rebounds and added a pair of blocked shots.  Jaxson Hayes posted 19 points, nine boards and three blocks for the Crusaders. Moeller advances to the quarterfinal round to face the winner of the Long Island Lutheran (NY)/Myrtle Beach (SC) match-up on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Cox Mill 76, Fairland 50 – Cox Mill (NC) defeated Fairland (OH) 76-50 in the opening round of the 2017 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center. Wendell Moore led Cox Mill with 29 points while teammate and University of North Carolina signee Rechon Black added 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals. With the win, Cox Mill advances to the quarterfinal round to face the winner of the Clark (NV)/Lanett (AL) match-up on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
