Beach Ball Recap, Day 1: Knights knock off Sharks

Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA) defeated St. James (Murrells Inlet) 70-43 in the opening round of the 2012 Beach Ball Classic.

The Knights (9-0) led by as many as 29 points in the second half in cruising to their seventh opening-round BBC victory in eight tournaments.  Jamall Gregory tallied 17 points and five steals to lead Bishop O’Connell.

St. James (6-3) was led by TreDarius McCallum and Nehemiah Stafford with nine points each. The Sharks face East Rutherford (NC) at noon Thursday in the consolation bracket.

* Wheeler (GA) 71, Spring Valley (SC) 50: Four Wildcats scored in double figures, including Avery Patterson and Trevin Steede with 17 apiece, in a rout over the Vikings (8-5) in the first round of the Beach Ball Classic.

Spring Valley’s Perry Dozier Jr. scored a game-high 18 and Dominique Taylor recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

* Hudson Catholic (NJ) 75, Socastee 48:  Reggie Cameron 24 scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Hawks (5-0) to a first-round Beach Ball victory over the Braves (4-4),

Socastee’s Dante Moore led the Braves with 16 points and Adarius McCray added nine as they fall into a consolation game against Spring Valley at 1:45 p.m. Thursday,
