Boys Hoops: Panthers rally as local 7-3A teams prevail

cfhoops-21socCarolina Forest survived a scare from rival Socastee on Tuesday night at the Brave Wave, pulling out a 55-51 victory over the region rival Braves.

The Panthers (13-5 overall, 4-1 region) had to come from behind and grind out the win after trailing by double digits in the third quarter. Carolina Forest used defensive pressure to set up some easy scores to rally for the victory.

Carolina Forest’s Duane Moss led the way with 18 points and Matt Weatherwax chipped in 13. Richmond Collier tallied eight and Damon McDowell and Xavier Lynch had seven apiece.

The Panthers travel to south Florence on Friday.

* North Myrtle Beach 64, Lake City 48: Josh Livingston exploded for a career-high 30 points to lead the Chiefs (6-11, 3-2)to a huge Region 7-3A victory over the Panthers.

The win allowed North Myrtle Beach to force a three-way tie for second place at 3-2 midway through the region rotation with Lake City and St. James. The Chiefs host the Sharks in a key showdown Friday night.

* St. James 58, Wilson 47: The Sharks (9-9, 3-2) dealt the Tigers (8-10, 3-1) their first region defeat of the season with a big win at the Shark Tank.

Jordan Fields scored a game-high 21 points to lead St. James, and Jackson Hurston and Zach Werba added 16 and 11 points, respectively. The Sharks travel to North Myrtle Beach on Friday.

* Myrtle Beach 52, Georgetown 49: The Seahawks (5-13, 2-3) earned their second straight region victory with a close one over the host Bulldogs to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Myrtle Beach plays host to first-place Wilson on Friday.

* Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 82, Florence Christian 34: The Saints (11-9, 5-0) won their eight straight to remain undefeated in SCISA Region 2-3A.

Jalen Matthews had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead CA. Jaylen Johnson scored 16 and Michael Green tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
