Boys Hoops: Seahawks, Chiefs score region wins

mbhoops-1sjThe Myrtle Beach High boys basketball team knocked off visiting St. James 60-53 on Tuesday night to secure a playoff spot.

The Seahawks (9-10 overall, 3-3 Region 7-4A) led throughout and held off a late surge by the Sharks. Emorie Knox led the Seahawks with 14 points and Jayce Allen and O’Neil McBride chipped in 10 points apiece. Trey Myers scored a game-high 18 for St. James.

Myrtle Beach travels to Marlboro County on Monday. St. James hosts the Bulldogs on Friday.

* North Myrtle Beach 80, Marlboro County: On a night that the school retired two jerseys of successful alums, the Chiefs put up some big numbers of their own.

The Chiefs (9-10, 5-1) won their third straight region game on Senior Night to keep their title hopes alive. They travel to No. 1-ranked Wilson on Friday looking to tie for first-place in the region.

At halftime, the school retired the jersey numbers of NFL players Temarrick Hemingway and Ryan Quigley.

* Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 84, Dillon Christian 50: The Saints (13-10, 8-1) rolled to another region victory

Bryce Schneider scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down six rebounds, and fellow senior Justin Busby added 14 points to go with a game-high five steals. Robert Guyton scored 13 points and Michael Green chipped in 11 points and Sam Woods had a game-high eight boards.

The Saints host Freedom Christian from Fayetteville (NC) on Wednesday night at 6:45 at Butler-Norton Gymnasium.
