Braves remain undefeated with region win over Chiefs

socwrestle-montageThe Socastee High wrestling team remained undefeated in dual and region action by defeating North Myrtle Beach 67-12.

The Chiefs won matches in the lightest and second highest weight classes, but the Braves swept the rest to improve to 12-0 overall and 2-0 in the region.

NMB’s Christian Coppola (106) won by pin and Jevon Carneige (220) won by forfeit, and the rest was all Socastee.

Female wrestler Quin Gammon (113), Dylan Martin (120), Justin Knipper (126), Logan Gammon (132) and Jordan Hodge (138) delivered five straight pins before teammate Brad Melntsky (145) went the distance for a 13-2 major decision.

Socastee’s Sam McKinney (152) won by forfeit before John Leggett (160), Andrew Badoo (170), Zach Mor (182) and Joe Smolenski (195) came through with four more pins. In the match of the night, heavyweight Kyle Burton too a 2-1 decision from Raeshawn Diggs.

(126 lbs.) Justin Knipper of Socastee pinned Jackie Ward of North Myrtle Beach in 3 minutes and 07 seconds.
(132 lbs.) Logan Gammon of Socastee pinned Harper Tribou-Newber of North Myrtle Beach in 1 minute and 45 seconds.
(138 lbs.) Jordan Hodge of Socastee pinned Adrian Avalos of North Myrtle Beach in 1 minute and 05 seconds.
(145 lbs.) Brad Melnytskyy of Socastee beat Rohan Reed of North Myrtle Beach 13-2 (Major Decision).
(152 lbs.) Sam McKinney of Socastee won by forfeit against North Myrtle Beach.
(160 lbs.) John Leggett of Socastee pinned Cortez Anderson of North Myrtle Beach in 1 minute and 43 seconds.
(170 lbs.) Andrew Badoo of Socastee pinned Alonzo Stevenson of North Myrtle Beach in 31 seconds.
