`Breakout’ performances by CAC swimmers in Columbia

CAC May Breakout 2017Carolina Aquatics of Columbia  hosted their annual May Breakout swim meet over Memorial Day weekend on the campus of the University of South Carolina, and several local swimmers turned in impressive performances.

Ten swim clubs and over 250 swimmers competed, including many members of the University of South Carolina Gamecock swim team. Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) had 36 swimmers in the water for the weekend, with 18 swimmers (50% of team) combined for 74 Top-10 finishes:

• Ryan Boudreau:  1st in 100 Fly; 3rd in 100 Breast; 4th in 50 Breast; 5th in 50 Fly; 6th in 100 Back; and 7th in 50 Back.

As noted earlier, there were many South Carolina Gamecock swimmers participating in the meet, mostly Freshmen and Sophomore swimmers.   So, CAC second-place finishes by Taylor Steele (100 Breast), Ian Morgan (400 IM), and Harrison Clinton (200 Breast) were to active collegiate Division I and SEC swimmers. Further, there was no age breakout for 13-14 year olds.  So, finishes by Ian Morgan and Harrison Clinton are that much more impressive when you realize they are 14 year-olds competing with 15-and-older swimmers, including the collegiate swimmers.

Long-course swimmers attempt to qualify to participate in the South Carolina Long Course Championships to be held July 20-23 in Columbia, SC.  Right now, CAC has 24 students qualified to compete.  CAC swimmers will have further opportunities to qualify for states (or improve their times) at upcoming meets in Cary, NC and Columbia.

CAC was represented by the following swimmers in the May Breakout meet:  Mason Alford, Olivia Bailey, Cameron Bonham, Abby Boudreau, Allyssa Boudeau, Ryan Boudreau, Mason Bryan, Connor Campbell, Harrison Clinton, Kennedy Cox, John Grey Crosby, Ryan Eldred, Tyler Eldred, Gillian Gatley, Jack Guthinger, Jenna Guthinger, Ella Habib, Kailey Habib, Victoria Marinoff, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, Sophia Murphy, Mia Paglio, Michael Paglio, Christian Patricio, Marissa Patricio, Claire Patterson, Jenn Paul, Allen Poston, Ben Richards, Chandra Robideaux, Camila Sheppard, Taylor Steele, Kyran Vitharana, Saman Vitharana, and Morgan Young.
