CAC sends six to swim at Lohberg International meet

CAC Lohberg Invitational 2015 I-1The Coastal Aquatic Club competed in the 4th annual Michael Lohberg International meet hosted by the Coral Springs Swim Club in Coral Springs, FL.

The event is in honor of Coach Michael Lohberg, who passed in away in 2011 due to a rare blood disease.  Coach Lohberg had qualified swimmers to compete in every Summer Olympics from 1984 to 2008, including Dara Torres who won 3 Silver Medals in the 2008 Beijing Games.

The Lohberg Invitational hosted a strong field, including age 18-and-under swimmers from all across Florida and collegiate swimmers competing for their USA Swim Clubs.  CAC sent six swimmers to compete in the Open category (Men 15 and older), including: Coach Fabio da Silva, Mason Bryan, Tyler Eldred, Andre Fachin, Luke LaRochelle, and Liam Zevgolis.   Together, they posted the following top finishes:

* Mason Bryan – 1st in 50 Back, and 2nd in 100 Back.
* Andre Fachin – 2nd in 50 Fly, 4th in 100 Fly, and 8th in 50 Back.
* Fabio da Silva – 2nd in 50 Breast.
* Luke LaRochelle – 4th in 50 Back, and 4th in 50 Fly.
* Tyler Eldred – 7th in 50 Breast.

As an indication of the strength of the field, Andre Fachin earned a 4th place in the 50 Meter Freestyle behind collegiate swimmers from the University of Florida, Cornell, and Lewis University (IL).   Similarly, his second place finish in the 50 Meter Butterfly was at the hands of Alex Evdokimov, a collegiate swimmer from Cornell and the host Coral Springs Swim Club.  Alex won both the 100 and 200 meter Breaststroke events at the Ivy League Championships this past year as a freshman.

CAC swimmers continue their long-course season with 2 more qualifying meets (Greenville, SC and Columbia, SC) before the South Carolina Long-Course State Championship Meet in Columbia July 23-26 at the Carolina Natatorium in the Blatt Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
