CAC swimmers bring home hardware from SMRT meet

mbswim-maggie langdale backstroke (2)Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) sent 14 swimmers to the 2014 SMRT Early Bird Invitational in Charleston over the weekend and returned with 19 top-five finishes in the kickoff of the long course season.

The meet, hosted by the Southern Marlins Racing Team (SMRT) of Charleston, saw CAC swimmers record personal best times in 65 of 91 events entered. Top CAC performers for the weekend included:

* Maggie Langdale was TOP FIVE in all 8 races entered:  2nd place in 200 Back; 3rd place in  100 Free, 200 Fly, 50 Free, 400 IM; 4th place in 200 IM, 200 Back, 400 Free.

* Casey Mitchell had 5 TOP FIVE finishes, including 1st place, 200 Back; 3rd place, 100 Back; 3rd place, 1,500 Free; 4th place, 400 Free; and 5th place, 100 Breast.  His 1st place finish in the 200 Back was the only 1st place by a CAC swimmer.

* Tyler Eldred had 4 TOP FIVE finishes, including a pair of 4th place finishes (100 Free and 50 Free) and a pair of 5th place finishes (100 Breast and 200 Free).

Collectively, CAC swimmers recorded 26 TOP EIGHT finishes:.

* Tyler Eldred: 50 Free (4th), 100 Free (4th), 100 Breast (5th), 200 Free (5th), 200 Breast (8th).

* Sean King: 200 Fly (6th), 200 Back (8th).

* Luke LaRochelle: 100 Free (5th), 200 IM (5th), 50 Free (6th).

Maggie Langdale: 200 Back (2nd), 100 Free (3rd), 200 Fly (3rd), 50 Free (3rd), 400 IM (3rd), 200 IM (4th), 200 Back (4th), 400 Free (4th).

* Casey Mitchell:  200 Back (1st), 100 Back (3rd), 1,500 Free (3rd), 400 Free (4th), 100 Breast (5th), 200 IM (7th), 100 Fly (8th).

* April Ratley: 100 Back (7th).

Team members earned seven new state qualifying times:  Casey Mitchell (200 IM, 1,500 Free, 100 Breast, 200 Back, and 400 Free); Maggie Langdale (200 Fly); Sean King (200 Fly). Maggie Langdale also set a new CAC Team Record in the 200 Fly (2:46.13).
