CAC swimmers bring home titles from Carolina Classic

cac-carolinaclassicCarolina Aquatics (CA) of Columbia hosted the 2016 Carolina Classic meet this past weekend on the campus of the University of South Carolina. Over 440 swimmers from 11 swim clubs from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia participated, including 34 swimmers from the Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC).  Over the 3-day meet, 17 swimmers (half of CAC swimmers in the meet) combined to post 40 Top 10 finishes. Here’s a breakdown of all TOP TEN finishes:

• Harrison Clinton:  1st in 100 Breast; 2nd in 200 Breast; 3rd in 400 IM; 4th in 200 IM; 5th in 100 Back; 7th in 50 Free; 7th in 100 Fly; and 9th in 200 Free.
• Taylor Steele:  1st in 100 Breast; 2nd in 200 Breast; and 8th in 50 Free.
• Ryan Eldred: 2nd in 500 Free; 4th in 100 Free; 6th in 200 Fly; 8th in 100 Fly; 10th in 100 Back; and 10th in 200 Free.
• John Grey Crosby:  7th in 50 Free; 8th in 100 Fly; and 8th in 100 Free.
• Casey Mitchell: 7th in 100 Back; 9th in 500 Free; 10th in 200 Free; and 10th in 200 Breast.
• David Zevgolis:  4th in 500 Free; 9th in 200 IM.
• Kennedy Cox:  5th in 200 Breast.
• Catherine Miller: 8th in 500 Free.
• Jensen Helgerson:  8th in 200 Breast.
• Adelyn Barbour:  8th in 100 Fly.
• Peyton Widner:  9th in 100 Fly; 9th in 500 Free.
• Marissa Patricio:  9th in 500 Free; 10th in 50 Fly.
• Kater Wolff:  9th in 100 Back.
• Chloe Stampfle:  9th in 50 Back.
• Rafael Adi: 10th in 100 Fly; 10th in 200 IM.
• Ana Wolff:  10th in 200 Breast.
• Summer Ratley:  10th in 200 Fly.

Additionally, the girls 15-and-older 400 yard Medley Relay team of Kater Wolff, Taylor Steele, Catherine Miller, and Anna Wolff finished 3rd in a field of 16 relay teams.

Taylor Steele set CAC team records in both the 100- and 200-yard Breaststroke.  And, the 13-14 boy’s Medley Relay team (Ryan Eldred, Harrison Clinton, Rafael Adi, and David Zevgolis) also set a team record.

For the meet, CAC swimmers posted 11 new state qualifying times, with a total of 24 swimmers now qualified for the short-course state championship meet in Greenville in February.   Additionally, 6 swimmers (Harrison Clinton, Taylor Steele, Olivia McGonigal, Kater Wolff, Casey Mitchell, and John Grey Crosby) are now qualified to compete in their Sectional Meet (a multi-state qualifier).

Next week, CAC will host its annual Reindeer Games, an intra-squad competition to celebrate the holiday season.  Then, CAC will be in Charleston and Clemson meets in mid-January for last-chance qualifiers before Short-Course States.
