CAC swimmers race rivals, storms at Palmetto Invite

While most of South Carolina was under rain showers this weekend, club swimmers met in Columbia for the Palmetto Aquatics Spring Invitational meet on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

Eleven swim clubs from across the Palmetto state participated, including 29 swimmers from the Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC). By mid-race on Sunday afternoon, heavy rain and lightning forced the cancellation of the remainder of the meet and disappointed swim families followed those same storms back to the Grand Strand.

In the shortened meet, 15CAC swimmers (over half the team) earned at least one TOP TEN finish (the University of South Carolina pool is a 10-lane pool):

* Ian Morgan: 1st in 400 IM;1st in 1,500 Free (i.e., The Mile); 2nd in 200 IM; 2nd in 400 Free; 2nd in 200 Fly; and 9th in 100 Free.
* Frederico da Castra: 1st in 200 Fly.
* Chandra Robideaux: 3rd in 50 Back; 4th in 50 Free; 5th in 100 Breast; 6th in 200 IM; 6th in 50 Breast; 8th in 200 Free; 9th in 100 Back; and 9th in 100 Free.
* Ella Habib: 3rd in 100 Fly; 3rd in 100 Back; 4th in 200 IM; 5th in 50 Back; 5th in 200 Free; 6th in 100 Free; 7th in 50 Fly; and 10th in 50 Free.
* Casey Mitchell: 3rd in 100 Back; 4th in 200 Back; 6th in 200 IM; and 8th in 400 Free.
* Alan Levy: 3rd in 100 Free; 5th in 200 Free; 6th in 50 Free; 8th in 100 Breast; 8th in 50 Breast; 9th in 200 IM; 10th in 50 Back; and 10th in 100 Back.
* Kayla Aguilar: 4th in 50 Breast; 5th in 200 IM; 6th in 100 Back;and 10th in 100 Free.
* Ryan Eldred: 4th in 200 Fly; 6th in 400 Free; and 7th in 100 Free.
* John Grey Crosby: 4th in 100 Free; and 8th in 100 Back.
* Tyler Eldred: 5th in 100 Free; and 8th in 200 Breast.
* Christian Patricio: 6th in 200 Fly; 7th in 400 IM.
* Marissa Patricio: 6th in 200 Fly.
* Molly Tate: 8th in 200 Fly.
* Mason Alford: 10th in 400 Free.
* Ryan Boudreau: 10th in 400 Free.

Long-course swimmers attempt to qualify to participate in the South Carolina Long Course Championships to be held in late July in Columbia.In addition to upcoming long-course meets, some CAC swimmers will also be competing in upcoming open water competitions in Charleston Harbor and Clemson’s Lake Hartwell.
