CAC swimmers soak up title atmosphere at Tiger Meet

CAC-TIGER Invitational Jan2017The Clemson Aquatic Team (CAT) hosted their 2017 Tiger Invitational Meet this past weekend at Clemson University.  In fact, the pool is located adjacent to Memorial Stadium (i.e., “Death Valley”).  The Saturday sessions coincided with Clemson’s National Championship parade which led to the celebration in the stadium.

The Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) sent 35 swimmers to the meet to compete with 470 swimmers from 12 swim clubs from South Carolina and Georgia.

Ian Morgan, who recently started training with CAC, led the way winning 3 events (500 Free, 400 IM, and 200 Fly) to go along with 3 second-place finishes and a third.  Harrison Clinton and John Grey Crosby also posted victories during the meet: Clinton in 100 and 200 Breast; Crosby in 100 Fly and 100 Free.

For the weekend, 16 CAC swimmers combined to post 57 TOP 8 finishes (the Clemson pool is an 8-lane venue):

• Ian Morgan:  1st in 500 Free; 1st in 400 IM; 1st in 200 Fly; 2nd in 200 Free; 2nd in 100 Fly; 2nd in 200 IM; 3rd in 100 Free; and 6th in 50 Free.
• Harrison Clinton:  1st in 200 Breast; 1st in 100 Breast; 3rd in 100 Fly; 3rd in 400 IM; 3rd in 200 Fly; 4th in 200 IM; and 7th in 500 Free.
• John Grey Crosby:  1st in 100 Fly; 1st in 100 Free; 3rd in 50 Free; 6th in 100 Back; 8th in 200 Back.
• Jenn Paul: 3rd in 200 Free; 3rd in 100 Free; 4th in 100 Fly; 4th in 200 Back; 5th in 50 Free; 6th in 100 Fly; and 7th in 100 Back.
• Casey Mitchell: 3rd in 200 Free; 3rd in 100 Fly; 3rd in 100 Breast; 3rd in 200 Back; 4th in 100 Back; 4th in 400 IM; and 5th in 200 IM.
• Joe Guthinger:  3rd in 1,650 Free (i.e., The Mile); 3rd in 200 Free; 8th in 100 Free.
• Ryan Boudreau:  4th in 50 Free; 6th in 100 Free; 6th in100 Free; and 8th in 100 Back.
• Ethan Nechemia:  5th in 500 Free; 8th in 400 IM.
• Allen Posten:  5th in 100 Fly; 8th in 200 IM.
• Dan Henington:  7th in 100 Fly; 7th in 200 Fly.
• Anna Satterfield:  7th in 200 Breast.
• Ty Kinner-Costello:  7th in 100 Fly.
• Catherine Miller: 8th in 100 Fly.
• Benjamin Richards:  8th in 100 Back.
• Chloe Stampfle:  8th in 200 Back.
• Allyssa Boudreau:  8th in 100 Fly.

The boy’s 13-14 year old relay team (Michael Paglio, Harrison Clinton, Allen Posten, and Dan Henington) finished 2nd in the 400 Medley Relay.  And, the boy’s 15-and-older 400 Free relay team (Casey Mitchell, John Grey Crosby, Jonah Crosby, and Ty Kinner-Costello) finished third.

Overall, 29 CAC swimmers area now qualified for the South Carolina Short-Course Championship next month.  Additionally, 7 swimmers (Harrison Clinton, Taylor Steele, Olivia McGonigal, Kater Wolff, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, and John Grey Crosby) are also qualified to compete in their Sectional Meet (a multi-state qualifier).
