CAC swimmers tune up for states at Tiger Invitational

CAC-Tiger Meet Jan2016The Clemson Aquatic Team (CAT) hosted their 2016 Tiger Invitational Meet this past weekend on the campus of Clemson University.  In fact, the pool is located adjacent to Memorial Stadium (i.e., Frank Howard Field and what is commonly known as “Death Valley”).  This meet was also the last opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the South Carolina Short-Course Championship Meet in February in Greenville, SC.

The Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) sent 16 swimmers to the meet to compete with 480 other swimmers from South Carolina and Georgia. The Tiger Invitational used the timed-finals format where the fasted times posted are deemed the place winners.  CAC swimmer eight TOP 8 finishes for the weekend (the Clemson pool is an 8-lane venue).

• Andre Fachin: 1st in the 100 Fly; 2nd in the 50 Free; and 5th in the 100 Free.
• Taylor Steele: 2nd in the 200 Breast; 2nd in the 100 Breast; 8th in the 200 IM.
• Tom Young: 6th in the 50 Free.
• Hannan Mackey: 8th in the 100 Free.

A number of swimmers were just outside of TOP 8 in specific races, including: Taylor Steele, Tom Young, Hannan Mackey, Garett Randall, Michael Paglio, Morgan Young, and Raven Bunton.

Overall, 22 CAC swimmers have now qualified for the State Meet in a total of 90 individual events:

• Girls: Kennedy Drew, Lizzy Gatley, Brae Jackson, Carly Belle Jackson, Catherine Jackson, Hannan Mackey, Olivia McGonigal, Jenn Paul, Summer Ratley, Taylor Steele, Ana Wolff, Jane Wolff, and Kater Wolff.

• Boys: Mason Bryan, Connor Campbell, John Grey Crosby, Will Jackson, Sean King, Casey Mitchell, Michael Paglio, Tom Young, and Liam Zevgolis.

Additionally, Sean King is qualified for the Age Group Sectional meet (for ages 8-14) while 4 CAC swimmers (Olivia McGonigal, Kater Wolff, Mason Bryan, and Andre Fachin) are now qualified for the Senior Sectional meet (for ages 15 and older) in March 2016 (site to be determined).   And, in a still more exclusive meet, Mason Bryan has qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando in March 2016.  More swimmers can qualify for these meets with qualifying times in the upcoming State meet.
