CAC’s Harrison, Morgan, Steele capture state titles

South Carolina Swimming hosted its annual Short Course Championship Meet this past weekend in Greenville, SC. This year, over 800 swimmers from 28 clubs were in action, including 25 swimmersfrom the Coastal Aquatic Club.

CAC’s Harrison Clinton (Boys 13-14) was crowned State Champion in four events (100 Breast, 200 Breast, 100 Fly, and 200 IM) in addition to three runner-up finishes.

Taylor Steele (Girls 15-18) won State Championships in both the 100 Breast and 200 Breast, along with two other podium finishes (a 2nd and 3rd). Along the way, Taylor set a new state short-course record in the 100 Breaststroke.

Ian Morgan (Boys 15-18) cruised to a state championship in the 1,650 Freestyle (i.e., The Mile) along with a 3rd place in the 1,000 Free. Casey Mitchell (2nd in 1,000 Free) and Ella Habib (3rd in 200 Fly) also made the podium.

Short course competition takes place in 25-yard pools. The Westside Aquatics Center is a 10-lane venue. Here is a list of TOP TEN finishes for the meet:

• Harrison Clinton: 1stin 100 Breast; 1st in 200 Breast; 1st in 100 Fly; 2nd in 400 IM; 2nd in 50 Free; and 2nd in 100 Free.
• Taylor Steele: 1st in 100 Breast; 1st in 200 Breast; 2nd in 200 IM; 3rd in 50 Free; and 6th in 400 IM.
• Ian Morgan: 1st in 1,650 (i.e., The Mile); 3rd in 1,000 Free; 4th in 500 Free; 6th in 200 Fly; and 7thin 400 IM.
• Casey Mitchell: 2nd in 1,000 Free;6th in 500 Free; 8th in 200 Back; 10th in 400 IM; and 10th in 100 Back.
• Ella Habib: 3rdin 200 Fly; 8th in 100 Fly.
• Joe Guthinger:5th in 1,650 Free (i.e., The Mile); 6th in 400 IM; 6th in 200 Back; 7th in 500 Free; and8th in 200 Free.
• Ryan Boudreau: 5th in 500 Free; 9th in 200 Free; and 10th in 100 IM.
• Kater Wolff: 7th in 100 Back.
• Chandra Robideaux: 10th in 500 Fly;10th in 50 Free.

The Girls’ 10-and-under team of Madison Jacquemin, Savannah Jansky, Kayla Aguilar, and Chandra Robideaux finished 6th in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 7th in 200 Medley Relay.

The Boys’ 15-18 team of Ian Morgan, John Grey Crosby, Ryan Eldred, and Casey Mitchell finished 7th in the 800 Freestyle Relay and 8th in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The Girls’ 15-18 team of Kater Wolff, Taylor Steele, Jenn Paul, and Olivia McGonigal finished 7th in the 400 Medley Relay.

Looking ahead, the following swimmers are qualified to compete in the multi-state sectional meets in March:
• Age-Group Sectionals (in Atlanta, GA): Harrison Clinton, Ella Habib.
• Senior Sectionals (in Cary, NC): John Grey Crosby, Casey Mitchell, Olivia McGonigal, Ian Morgan, Taylor Steele, Miles Washington, and Kater Wolff.
