Campbell qualifies for third straight Olympics with toss

campbellAmber Campbell qualified today at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon for her third straight Olympic Games. She will represent America in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next month.

The Grand Strand resident broke the Trials record for distance in Women’s Hammer Throw with a distance of 74.03 meters on her final throw of the day, beating her previous Trials record for her toss in 2012. She also set a mark for personal best, which had been 73.61 meters.

Campbell threw for Coach Alan Connie while attending Coastal Carolina University, and was the 16-time Big South Conference Champion, “What an amazing performance,” Connie said minutes after the awards ceremony. Connie and Campbell were both inducted into the Big South Athletic Hall of Fame this year and commented by phone from the Trials. “For her to come up big on her final throw is amazing. We’re so proud of her and her accomplishments. This is the month of the Chanticleer.”
