Capital One Bowl video of USC’s on-field celebration

Grand Strand Sports Report is live in Orlando for the Capital One Bowl featuring the South Carolina Gamecocks vs. the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We offer this running commentary of the game:

Location: The Capital One Bowl is held in sunny Orlando, Florida just off of Orange Blossom Trail in the Citrus Bowl Stadium. I know, that is kind of confusing, but in reality the stadium is located in a convenient, if not shady section of town.  The stadium is much smaller than you would expect, but seems to be nicely arranged and you could say there isn’t a bad seat in the place.

Seats: Speaking of seats and tickets, if you were inclined to leave at the last moment and try to purchase tickets outside the stadium, you would have been in luck. Walking into the stadium, I saw approximately 100 different people offering tickets and some even offering to give them away free. South Carolina Director of Sports Marketing Eric Nichols said the team still hadn’t sold around 1500 of it’s allotment. That is evidenced by the emptiness of sections 217 and 218.

Kickoff: The stadium is rocking, the temp is comfortable at 64 degrees and this looks to be a great day for football.

South Carolina’s 1st series produces nothing for the Cocks.

Nebraska takes their first drive 3 plays, 64 seconds, and 46 yards for an easy Touchdown.

The Cocks block the point after attempt and Gilmore runs it back for  a Safety. Just a couple of minutes into the game and it’s 6-2, Nebraska lead.

Connor Shaw on 4th Down takes it in from the 1 yard line and the point after attempt is good. Gamecocks lead 9-6 after the 11 play 56 yard Touchdown drive.

Nebraska punches it in from the 1 yard line after an 8 play, 60 yard drive. This time the point after is good.  Nebraska now leads 13-9 with 3:33 left in the 1st quarter.

End of the 1st quarter and Nebraska look like they can move the ball with ease against the Gamecocks. Cornhuskers lead 13-9.

2nd Quarter:: Just when it looked like Nebraska might score again, the Cocks force a fumble and recover at their own 15 yard line and then on the first play throw a  78 yard pass completion to Nebraska’s 6 yard line. After a delay of game and a missed Field Goal, the Cocks remain down 13-9 with 5:49 left in the 1st half.

Alshon Jeffery catches a Hail Mary pass at the end of the 1st half to put the Cocks up 16-13 going into the locker room.

 

2nd Half Action: Nebraska misses a 35 yard field goal attempt to leave the score at 16-13 South Carolina lead with 10:45 left in the 3rd.

With 2 minutes left in the 3rd, still 16-13 USC lead, Alshon Jeffery and Nebraska’s Alfonzo Denard are both ejected from the game.

End of the 3rd: The Gamecocks still lead 16-13 with 15 minutes to play in the season. Who would have thought that the Cocks would finish their season without Stephen Garcia, Marcus Lattimore, OR Alshon Jeffery?

12:25 in the 4th Quarter, Gamecocks run 5 plays for 41 yards and score to lead 23-13.

South Carolina is 9:25 away from winning their 1st Bowl Game since 2006’s Liberty Bowl when they defeated Houston.

South Carolina Scores again…and walks away with the win! Final Score USC 30 Nebraska 13.
