Carolina Forest’s Pieterse, Conklin win CCU Invitational

Carolina Forest’s Lisa Pieterse and Dustin Conklin won their respective divisions at the Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational on Saturday on the CCU campus.

Despite soaring temperatures, Pieterse turned in a blistering time of 19:44, more than 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Grace Barnett of Waccamaw.

Meanwhile on the boys side, Conklin covered the 3.1-mile course in 17:32, edging Waccamaw’s Jaz Greene by only two seconds.

Waccamaw won the boys and girls championships with 32 and 37 points, respectively, but Conklin led the Panthers to a second-place finish while Pieterse helped the Lady Panthers capture third.

The Socastee girls finished second with 61 points to edge Carolina Forest with 80. North Myrtle Beach (104), Aynor (105) and Conway (125) rounded out the six girls squads.

Rebekah Booth (22:54) led a Lady Braves team made up of eighth graders, freshmen, one sophomore and one junior with a sixth-place finish. Crystal Shimer (22:54) was seventh and Jill Dudley (22:58) was ninth.

The top finishers for North Myrtle Beach were Benjamin Jenerette (20:58) and Drake Jenerette (22:12).

On the boys side, Waccamaw was able to land all seven runners in the top 21 to win the meet with 32 points. Carolina Forest finished in second with 40 points, just ahead of Socastee in third with 60 points. Aynor (102) and North Myrtle Beach (160) rounded out the boys field.

Robert Peardon of Carolina Forest came in fourth place for the Panthers with a time of 18:19. Jesse Patrick tallied a seventh-place spot for the Panthers at 18:32.

The two top runners for Socastee were Austin Poisson and William Caswell in fifth and sixth place, respectively, at 18:24 and 18:26.
