CCU Golf: Hansen wins; men in middle of pack

After playing in bad weather during the first two rounds of the Ladies Fall Invitational, today’s third round was canceled and Coastal Carolina’s Malene Krolboll Hansen was named the Atlanta event’s champion.

The third round had actually gotten underway and the Chanticleers had moved up four spots and stood in third place when the field became unplayable and the event’s final day of action was canceled.

None of today’s results figured into the final leaderboard as all scores went back to the completion of Saturday’s second round. CCU finished seventh with a two-day total +35 611 (308-303).

Hansen’s two-day total of even-par 144 (72-72) had her entering the day’s final round two strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. With scores going back to yesterday Hansen was declared the tournament’s individual medalist.

The win was Hansen’s second individual championship of her career as she continues to lay claim to one of the top women’s golfer in CCU history. Her two rounds of par now give her a total of 44 rounds of shooting par or better during her 35 events as a member of the Chanticleers golf program. It is also the 11th time she has finished in the top-10 and the 24th time she has finished in the top-20 of her events.

The other Chanticleer finishers were Marie Lunackova tied at 28th (156), Sena Ersoy finished tied for 32nd just one shot back with a 157. Stephanie Henning was one shot back of Ersoy and tied at 40th (158) and Frantiska Lunackova finished 49th with a two-day total of 161.

The event brings to a close the fall portion of the schedule. CCU will be back in action when the spring schedule begins with the Florida State Match Up. The event will be held Feb. 9-11 and will be played at the home course of FSU, the Seminole Golf Club.

* Scores were high on a windy, wet day for the first round of the East Bay Deli Classic, played at the par 72 Turtle Point Golf Course at Kiawah, and Coastal Carolina stands in a tie for eighth place in the 15-team field event.

Coastal shot a score of 318 in the six-count-four event (the team total is determined by counting the top four scores among the team’s six players). No team was under par and #26 Tennessee leads with a 10-over par score of 298.

CCU’s Andrew Roy is tied for 16th after an opening-round 77 and Luis Ruiz shot a 1-over par on the tough inward nine to stand in a tie for 25th with a score of 78 Sunday.
