CCU Male Athlete of Month: Greenwood hitting his peak

For senior point guard Kierre Greenwood, the trek from Cincinnati, Ohio to Conway is quite a distance. But that pales in comparison to the strides he has made with Coastal Carolina over the last four years.

All of that hard work has paid off, as he reached the 1,000-point mark against Presbyterian in the CCU Big South Conference home opener a week ago. He has also surpassed 400 assists, 150 steals and 320 total rebounds.

It also helped him earn the Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resort December Player of the Month for men’s basketball from the Grand Strand Sports Report.

Greenwood has been putting up impressive numbers for the Chanticleers in 2012-13. He is averaging 14.2 points per game through 14 games played. He has a 4-point field goal percentage of .444, while holding a 3.07-rebounds per game average. He has tallied 4.64 assists a game and 2.07 steals per game mark in 443 minutes played.

During the month of December, Greenwood scored 21 points against Greensboro College. He pulled down three rebounds, and added eight assists in 32 minutes played. Against College of Charleston, he scored 17 points in 33 minutes played. He grabbed two rebounds and handed out three assists.

In back-to-back wins against Clemson University and Toccoa Falls, Greenwood finished with 10 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 35 minutes, and nine points, eight assists, two rebounds, and three steals in 28 minutes, respectively.

Despite the loss against Boston University, Greenwood was one of the team leaders with 38 minutes played with 19 points, two steals, two rebounds and four assists.

Throughout his career at Coastal, Greenwood has started in 103 of the 104 games that he has played and has played 2,994 minutes. He averages 10.0 points per game over his career. He holds a .456 field goal percentage and a .346 three-point average, while dishing out 432 assists over his four years at CCU.
