CCU names Aramian new assistant volleyball coach

Coastal Carolina head volleyball coach Jozsef Forman has named Gabe Aramian assistant volleyball coach.

Aramian comes to Coastal following six years with A5 Mizuno Volleyball in Atlanta, where he served as master coach, strategic planner, board adviser, lead instructor for youth programs and camps, lead instructor and planner for tryouts, lead instructor and instructor and planner for pre-season training and the Holiday Camp, lead instructor and instructor and planner for the Southern Showcase College Recruiting Combine and college recruiting coordinator.

“My relationship with Gabe goes back to my time at Auburn.  As a volunteer coach he mastered the statistical program DataVolley, and along with his experience in the gym and work in the office he was instrumental in the Tigers’ success,” said Forman.

“Of course, Gabe is known for being one of the lead figures at perhaps the strongest volleyball organization in the country, A5 Volleyball Club, founded by Bob Westbrook (former University of Florida head coach and founder of Front Range Volleyball Club).  With his experience and success, I believe he will make a significant and immediate contribution to the Coastal Carolina program.”

Aramian most recently coached the 161 team, which was ranked No. 22 in the nation (PrepVolleyball) and won the Sports Performance Presidents Day Tournament and the OVA MLK Invitational in the 17 Open Division.

In 2011, Aramian’s team won a National Championship at USAV Junior Olympics in the 16-American Division with a perfect 11-0 match record, as well as a perfect 22-0 game record with a season ranking of No. 12 in the nation.

During the 2010 volleyball season, Aramian’s 161 team finished sixth at the USAV Junior Olympics in the 16-Open Division, was ranked No. 2 in the nation, earned gold medals at Sports Performance President’s Day and the Mid East Power League, a silver at the Northern Lights National Qualifer, 16-Open Division and was the first team from the Southern Region to win an Open National Qualifier.

Aramian also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Auburn University in 2010, when the Tigers posted a 21-12 record and earned a No. 42 RPI ranking. Auburn reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program’s history and the Tigers also earned their first NCAA Tournament win.

In 2008, Aramian’s 161 team became the first 16’s team from Georgia to earn a gold medal at the SRVA Regional Championships and finished 13th at the USAV Junior Olympics, which was the highest finish for a 16s team from the Southern Region.

During his time in Atlanta, Aramian trained and coached more than 9,500 athletes, including two NCAA All-Americans, 25 AAU and USAV All-Americans, four AVCA High School All-Americans, seven top 100 and 11 top 150 Senior Aces, five State Gatorade Players of the Year and 17 GVCA State Players of the Year.

Additionally, Aramian has worked for the Volley Performance training company where he held positions of master coach, class lead instructor, and lead instructor for the Elite Setters Camp, Hitting and Passing Camp, Libero Camp, Lefty-Rightside Camp and Tall Girl Camp. He has also coached at the high school level in Georgia, as well as at the international level with the Puerto Rican Junior National Team.

“It is with much adulation and appreciation that I am given the opportunity to expand my future as a volleyball coach at Coastal Carolina University,” said Aramian.

“My respect for Jozsef is profound, and I am honored to say the least.  What we have here is great: a strong and supportive administration, a first-class staff, a campus and environment incomparable to most, and a determined group of girls ready and willing to sacrifice for success.”

Aramian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in public and international affairs from the University of Georgia in 2006, where he also played on the NIRSA indoor volleyball team that finished fifth in 2005 and 13th in 2006 at the NIRSA Collegiate Championships. He completed his Master of Public Administration degree from Kennesaw State University in 2011.
