CCU seniors take bow but vow return to HTC Center

Senior Night has a twist for four Coastal Carolina upperclassmen playing in their final regular-season home game against rival Winthrop on Wednesday.

The Chanticleers (13-13 overall, 8-6 Big South) can enjoy the pomp and circumstance with the security that they will play at least one more game at the HTC Center in next week’s Big South Conference Tournament.

The Chants will honor seniors Bisi Addey, Charles Ashford, Anthony Raffa and Kierre Greenwood, with the latter two leaving as one of the most decorated duo’s in Coastal history.

Raffa eclipsed the 1,000-point mark at Coastal earlier this season. He is now the 17th CCU player to reach the mark. Raffa had already eclipsed 1,000 points for his college career heading into the 2012-13 season with his 271 points at Albany combined with his total at Coastal. He now has 1,677 points in his college career and 1,406 in a Coastal uniform.

Greenwood surpassed the 1,000-point scoring mark at Coastal weeks later to become the 18th CCU player to score 1,000 points in a career. He now has 1,159 career points and is the winningest four-year player in Coastal Carolina men’s basketball history. Greenwood has now been a part of 88 wins, which is the most by any four-year player in Coastal Carolina history. CCU’s record with Greenwood on the roster is 88-38. The previous best four-year stretch was 86-45 from 2008-12.

The Chants won the most recent home meeting with Winthrop (12-15, 5-9 Big South South), 74-69 on Jan. 13, 2011. The Eagles defeated the Chants 61-48 in Rock Hill earlier this season in their most recent meeting. Winthrop is looking to sweep the season series with Coastal for the first time since 2006-07.

Winthrop is seeking to end its 10-game Big South road losing streak on Wednesday. The Chanticleers are in search of back-to-back conference wins for the third time this season and put them in position to claim the No. 3 seed in the South Division. Coastal is currently in fourth, good for the final tournament bid and another chance to play at the HTC Center.
