CCU volleyball draws JMU in opening round of NCAAs

ccuvol-huddleThe Coastal Carolina volleyball team (27-4, 15-1) will face James Madison (21-10, 11-5 CAA) in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Volleyball Championship, it was announced Sunday night during the NCAA Selection Show.

The first round match is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. It is the third consecutive year that Coastal plays its NCAA regional matches in Carmichael Arena.

The University of North Carolina (27-3, 19-1 ACC), serving as host for the regional, faces High Point (23-9, 11-5 Big South) in the first round at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The second-round match, featuring Friday’s winners, will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Chanticleers earned their third consecutive NCAA postseason berth – a program record – by downing top-seeded Arkansas State in the Sun Belt championship match. Coastal is making its sixth NCAA postseason appearance in program history.

James Madison earned the CAA’s automatic bid after winning the league’s regular season and tournament championships. JMU is making its third NCAA Tournament appearance since becoming a Division I member in 1986.

Coastal enters the NCAA postseason riding a 17-match winning streak – one win shy of tying the program record – that began on Sept. 30 with a four-set win at Texas State. The Chants’ 27 wins this season match the program record set by the 1996 and 2008 squads. Coastal’s .870 winning percentage this season is the highest in school history.
