CCU’s Jacobs to compete in FCS Senior Scout Bowl

Coastal Carolina senior linebacker Andrae Jacobs will get one more chance to show NFL scouts what he can do on the football field in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The all-star showcase for FCS stars returns to Myrtle Beach for a third season, allowing 88 seniors the chance to display their skills. Practices get under way Thursday before Saturday’s 5 p.m. kickoff.

Jacobs is the ideal candidate for such an honor. After earning Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, he struggled with a hamstring injury and saw limited action as an upperclassman.

Jacobs made the All-Big South defense first team as a junior and was a preseason pick as a senior, but he was limited to 27 total tackles in 2012, his lowest output since his freshman year out of South Columbus (NC) High.

FCS Senior Scout Bowl officials have also said that 17 NFL contacts, three CFL contacts and four European team contacts will be represented at the bowl game this year, making this year especially exciting for players.

“These players have worked extremely hard and have earned the honor to participate in this scouting bowl,” said George St. Lawrence, co-founder of the FCS Senior Scout Bowl, “The FCS Senior Scout Bowl Committee takes pride in its selection process and we’re looking forward to this year’s game.”

A collaborative partnership among event organizers, the city of Myrtle Beach, and the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has helped to ensure the success of the third-year event.

Tourism officials say securing sporting events like the FCS Senior Scout Bowl continues to be a focus of efforts to attract visitors to the Grand Strand during the shoulder-season months, as athletes often bring friends or family with them to the area.

General bowl game admission tickets are $10 and student tickets are $5. All practice sessions will be open to the public and to media. Joining Jacobs on the South squad, along with a full roster from the North, are listed below:
