Girls Wrapup: Center Point runs past MB in CresCom

Center Point (AL) used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to pull away from a pesky Myrtle Beach team in Tuesday’s first round of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Lady Seahawks (5-5) trailed the Lady Eagles (10-3) by just two points, 22-20, with 13 minutes remaining but was held scoreless for more than 6 minutes while Center Point went on to a 42-32 victory.

Gabrielle Holston, who scored a game-high 19 points and also grabbed nine rebounds, made a three-point play the old fashioned way to give the Lady Eagles a 34-20 advantage with only 7 minutes left on the clock.

Myrtle Beach, which led by as many as six points in the first half, was carried by senior Tanisha Brown’s double-double with a team-high 17 points and game-high 10 rebounds. Her teammates totaled only 15 points.

The Lady Seahawks drop into the consolation bracket and will face Penfield (NY), a 69-65 loser of Tuesday’s nightcap to Heathwood Hall (SC), at 10 a.m. Thursday.

* North Myrtle Beach 50, Conway 15: The Lady Chiefs (6-0) turned in an impressive defensive performance, limiting the visiting Lady Tigers (0-7) to five points or less in each period.

Taylor Allman led the Lady Chiefs with 17 points, India Farmer turned in 16 and Ja’Quella Livingston chipped in 11.

* St. James 56, Andrews 40: Hannah Price lit up the Lady Blue Jackets for 30 points to lead the Lady Sharks (7-2) to a big road victory. Bethany Goodrich added 10 points for St. James.

* New Hanover (NC) 44, Socastee 42: The Lady Braves lost a heartbreaker on the road in North Carolina with a last-minute loss. Kira Bell scored 13 points and Kirstin Zanardo added 12 points for Socastee.

CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational

* Atlantic (FL) 64, CE Murray (SC) 32: The Lady Sharks (8-2) easily advanced to the quarterfinals with a blowout of the Lady War Eagles (5-3).

Atlantic’s Shantazia Howard scored a game-high 23 points, Destiny Woodard added 16 points and Ronni Williams tallied 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds to lead the Lady Sharks.

CE Murray was led by Naomi Moore’s double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

* Kings Fork (VA) 70, Potters House Christian (FL) 59: The Lady Bulldogs (7-0) remained undefeated on the season with a first-round victory over the Lady Lions (14-2).

Kings Fork’s Khadedra Croker earned a game-high double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds and als added eight blocks. Teammate Brittany Alston scored 11 points and Adrienna McCrary and Julissa Riddick added 10 apiece in the win.

Potters House Christian was led by Ra’Jean Martin in scoring with 12 points and Danisha Swain in assists with 10.
