CF girls, MB boys prevail at St. James Invitational

The Myrtle Beach boys and Carolina Forest girls swam to championships in Saturday’s St. James Invitational 10-team swim meet at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center Pool.

The Seahawks tallied 116 team points to defeat runner-up Waccamaw (90.5) and third-place St. James (88). Carolina Foorest (65) and North Myrtle Beach (48) rounded out the top-five teams. Conway (7) finished ninth.

Myrtle Beach captain Justin Roberts and Yianni Paraschos finished 1-2 in the 200 free. Ian Morgan took first in the 200 Individual Medley and first in the 100 Breast. Ryan Eldred took first place in the 500 free and second place in the 100 fly. Jacob Flaherty took third in the 500 free. Myrtle Beach’s 400 free relay team won, while the 200 Medley relay placed second overall, and the 200 free relay took third.

The Carolina Forest girls earned 102 points to edge runner-up North Myrtle Beach (90), West Florence (83), Myrtle Bewach (70), St. James (66) and Conway (35). The Lady Panthers won the 200 Medley Relay, and finished second in the 400 Free Relay. Taylor Steele won the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Individual Medley, and Peyton McWhorter won the 100 Free and finished second in the 200 Free. Raven Bunton and Morgan Young both earned their state consideration times in the 100 Backstroke and 500 Freestyle respectively.

The Lady Chiefs finished 2nd behind Carolina Forest. Top finishes were swam by Sydney Hardman in the the 50 and 100 freestyle, Summer Ratley in the 100 fly and 500 freestyle, Jenna Downey, Rivers Chandler and JP Stephenson in the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 and 400 free relay teams.

Myrtle Beach’s Olivia McGonigal took first place in the 50 Free and helped the Lady Seahawks’ 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay teams to first and second place finishes, respectively.

North Myrtle Beach will host its meet Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness center at 9 a.m.
