Chanticleers host Citadel; winner gets CSU rematch

ccufoot-huddleFor the third consecutive season – and fourth time in school history, Coastal Carolina will host an NCAA FCS Championship game as the 10th-ranked Chanticleers (9-2) will host #18 The Citadel (8-3) this Saturday (Nov. 28) at Brooks Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.

The winner will go on to play at #8 seed and 9th-ranked Charleston Southern (9-2) in the NCAA FCS Championship second round Dec. 5.

Tickets for the Coastal’s home playoff game – $20 for Upper seats and $15 for Lower – are available online. Coastal Carolina season ticket holders’ seats will be held until Wednesday at Noon. All other fans will be able to purchase available seats online immediately.

Sections 130 and 131 will be general admission, also for $15. The visiting team sections will be 101-103. Coastal Carolina students with a valid CCU student ID will be admitted for free (paid for by the University) and will be available online just as they have been all season. Fans will be able to purchase tickets at Coastal Carolina’s women’s basketball game today (Nov. 22). The CCU Athletics Ticket Office will be open Monday and Tuesday from 9 am-5 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am-3 pm. Tickets will also be available for purchase at Brooks Stadium on Saturday starting at 10 am.

Coastal Carolina and The Citadel have only met on one previous occasion. The teams’ opened the 2014 season in Charleston with the Chanticleers claiming a 31-16 decision. Overall, Coastal Carolina is 10-8 versus Southern Conference schools and has won seven of the last eight in such games.

Coastal features 19th-best scoring offense in the FCS (34.8 ppg) and 14th-best scoring defense (18.2 ppg). CCU is also seventh in the FCS in completion percentage, 10th in red zone offense and18th in first downs offense.

The Citadel was co-champion in the Southern Conference and is coming off a 23-22 win at South Carolina in the 2015 season finale. The Bulldogs are second in the FCS in rushing offense (344.3 avg.) and sixth third down conversions (49.3 percent).

Coastal Carolina is 2-1 in home playoff games and 4-5 overall in playoff games. However, the Chants have gone 4-3 in the NCAA FCS Championship in the Joe Moglia era and have advanced to the NCAA FCS quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons, falling both times to eventual national champion North Dakota State.
