Chants draw Tennessee Tech in BracketBusters showdown

The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team will host Tennessee Tech in the Sears BracketBusters game on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Kimbel Arena. The game time will be announced at a later date.

The game is Coastal’s (16-5, 9-2 Big South) second overall meeting in the event and third meeting against the Golden Eagles (13-9, 5-4 OVC) of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The all-time series is tied at 1-1 after the Chants fell 70-64 on Feb. 8, 1988 in Cookeville, Tenn. Coastal won the first meeting earlier that season on Dec. 9 in Conway 91-80.

“Tennessee Tech is a good basketball team,” said head coach Cliff Ellis. “I have a lot of respect for the Ohio Valley Conference and the Tennessee Tech program.”

Coastal only other appearance in the BracketBusters event was on Feb. 17, 2007 as they defeated Canisius 83-66 in Conway.

The BracketBusters game is included in the Coastal Carolina season ticket package.

The Big South is 8-16 all-time in the BracketBusters, including two wins in 2006, 2007 and 2010.  The Conference has now been selected for national television appearances five times in the past seven years:  2007 (ESPN2), 2008 (ESPN2), 2009 (ESPNU), 2011 (ESPNU) and 2012 (ESPN3).  Winthrop has made the most BracketBusters appearances among the Big South members with six, and is 3-3 in the series.
