Chants go west in quest for first Sun Belt victory

The Coastal Carolina football team (1-9, 0-6 Sun Belt) will make its longest trip in program history in hopes of snapping the longest losing streak in program history.

The Chants play at Idaho (3-6, 2-3 Sun Belt) at 5 p.m. Saturday for the first meeting between the two schools. Coastal will be making its furthest road trip for football to Moscow, Idaho. According to Google Maps, the distance from Conway to Moscow is 2,737 miles.

Previously, Coastal’s furthest trip was in 2013 to Missoula, Montana (2,488 miles, according to Google Maps). Coastal upset then #4 seed Montana, 42-35, in the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs, which is believed to be the coldest FCS playoff game ever played. Actual temperature at kickoff was minus 5 degrees with the wind chill reaching 30 below.

This will be Coastal’s fourth trip across the Mississippi River this year, as Coastal has previously played at UL Monroe, Arkansas State and Arkansas. Prior to this year, Coastal had only crossed the Mississippi River four times.

The Chants are coming off tough losses to Troy and Arkansas and need a win to avoid their first double-digit losing skid. They will close the season at home against Georgia Southern.
