Chanticleers look to stay hot at Big South foe Blue Hose

Coastal Carolina looks to stay one step behind league-leading UNC Asheville when the Chanticleers travel to Clinton to take on Presbyterian College on Thursday night.

The Chants (14-5 overall, 7-2 conference) remain one game behind first place UNC Asheville (14-7, 8-1) in the Big South Conference standings by defeating the Blue Hose (8-11, 2-7) for the sixth consecutive time.

The Chants continue to rank among the tops in the nation in several statistical categories. As of Monday, Coastal ranked third in field goal percentage (50.5%) and sixth in rebounding margin (+8.9) in the NCAA.

The Chants have not allowed a team to shoot 50 percent or better through 19 games. The best mark by an opponent is 49.0-percent against Asheville.

Leading scorer Anthony Raffa tied a career-high with 28 points against Radford, leaving him one short of totaling 1,000 career points.

The Chanticleers hold a 9-6 advantage over the Blue Hose in the all-time series dating back to the 1974-75 season. Coastal has won the last five meetings in the series including an 81-63 win on Jan. 14 in Kimbel Arena. Coastal won the last outing against Presbyterian in Clinton, 61-41.

The Blue Hose have lost five consecutive conference games after starting the year with a 2-2 Big South
mark.

PC is led by Al’Lonzo Coleman who is averaging 15.3 ppg and 8.1 rebounds. Coleman had 16 points and 15 rebounds during the last meeting against Coastal but the Blue Hose turned the ball over 18 times compared to a season-low four by the Chants.

Despite holding a 2-6 record away from home this season the Blue Hose defeated Cincinnati 56-54 on a Khalid Mutakabbir three-pointer with 7.6 seconds left, giving PC its first win over a ranked opponent in its Division I history.
