Chants still ranked in top 10 despite first loss of season

ccufoot-dFor the 25th consecutive week and for the 32nd time spanning the last 35 ranking periods, the Coastal Carolina football program remained a consensus top 10 program, as both the FCS Coaches’ and STATS FCS Top 25 national media polls have the Chanticleers ranked eighth this week.

The Chanticleers are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 overall. Coastal was the nation’s top-ranked team in the FCS Coaches’ poll for eight consecutive weeks – and 10 of the last 11 regular-season ranking periods – prior to the setback this past Saturday at nationally-ranked Charleston Southern.

Jacksonville State is the consensus #1, followed by Illinois State, Chattanooga, Eastern Washington, Richmond, North Dakota State and Sam Houston in the STATS FCS Top 25. The FCS Coaches’ poll agrees with the top four with McNeese State – #9 in the media poll – coming in at number five, followed by North Dakota State and Richmond. Charleston Southern moved up to 13th in the FCS Coaches’ poll and 15th in the STATS FCS Top 25 after upsetting the Chanticleers this past weekend.

In addition to being a top 10 program for 25 consecutive weeks, Coastal has been ranked among the nation’s top 25 for 41 consecutive weeks and been at least ranked among the nation’s top six in 31 of those 41 periods. Due to Coastal’s sustained success since the arrival of head coach Joe Moglia, 60 Minutes Sports will air a feature on the program on Tuesday (Nov. 3) at 8 pm (ET). The program will be broadcast on Showtime.

Coastal Carolina will play its first home game since Oct. 10 when it hosts Gardner-Webb this Saturday (Nov. 7) at 3:30 pm. The game will be broadcast on the American Sports Network (WWMB will broadcast the game in the Grand Strand). Coastal Carolina will induct Zack Byrd (men’s golf) and Joseph Harris (men’s basketball) into its Sasser Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday and the pair will be recognized at halftime.

Also this Saturday, Coastal Carolina athletics has rescheduled its previously postponed post-game fireworks show (fans are asked to stay in their seats at the conclusion of the contest and stay off the playing field).
