Track & Field: NMB, CF run away with tri-meet sweeps

nmbtf-relayboysThe North Myrtle Beach High boys track and field team improved to 2-0 on the season by winning a tri-meet Thursday night at Waccamaw.

The Chiefs tallied 86 total points to defeat the host Warriors (68) and third-place Green Sea Floyds (9), and they saved their most exciting victory for last.

The final race of the night saw the Chiefs’ 4×400 relay team outlast the Warriors as a pair of eighth graders – Tyler Edwards and Jareh Piggott – took advantage of a great first leg by junior Derrion Conyers and got the baton to anchor Dondre Thompson in time to cruise to the victory.

North Myrtle Beach placed well in all field events and sprints and were competitive in the middle and long distance races.

The Chiefs will be back in action Monday evening at Carolina Forest.

* The North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs won the same tri-meet, taking first place in nine of the 17 events for 100 points. Waccamaw (78) and Green Sea Floyds(0)  rounded out the field.

Emily Barbosa, Jenna Downey, Wilson Jenerette, and Jevelyn Cox set the school record in the 4×800 with a time of 10:16.
