Chiefs see season come to a close to Mustangs’ Carr

nmbfoot-celebNorth Myrtle Beach’s season came to an end in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs Friday night with a 35-21 loss to visiting Midland Valley.

The Chiefs (4-7) defense seemed to get hit by a truck, but it was actually a Carr, as in running back Dre Carr. He rushed for three touchdowns and delivered some punishing runs that helped the Mustangs (7-4) control the ball and advance to the second round.

Carr put Midland Valley ahead early with his first TD run, but the Chiefs responded quickly and appeared to take control of the game. Quarterback Ronnie Bass scored a TD to give North Myrtle Beach its first lead at 7-6, but he threw a late pick-six and the two teams went into halftime tied at 14-all.

But Carr and a pair of Brown brothers finished off the Chiefs in the second half. Cameron Brown caught a 54-yard touchdown pass, Carr ran for his third, and Skyler Brown scored on a pick-six to give Midland Valley a 35-14 lead. Colby Gore caught a late TD pass to close the gap but the Chiefs couldn’t stop the hard-running Carr to make a run.

North Myrtle Beach seemed to be putting it all together entering the playoffs, winning three of their last four regular season meetings and upsetting rival and No. 1-ranked Myrtle Beach last week. But the Chiefs didn’t play like the same team Friday to fall from the playoffs in Blair Hardin’s first season as head coach.
