Soccer: Saints win twinbill; MB, NMB, SJ boys prevail

cambsoc-bootThe Chrsitian Academy of Myrtle Beach boys and girls soccer teams scored a sweep over different opponents in a mixed doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Lady Saints rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Calvary Christian, while the CAMB boys got taken to the limit against Lowcountry Prep before pulling out a 5-4 win.

CAMB’s Cody Williams broke a 4-all tie with 10 minutes remaining when he converted the game-winning goal at the 30-minute mark of the second half. Goalkeeper Spencer Underwood and the Saints’ defense made it hold up.

The Saints led 4-1 before Calvary mounted a comeback. Josh Lang scored a pair of goals, and Todd Carroll and Allen Butler added goals, but Calvary tallied three straight scores to tie it up at 4. That set the stage for Williams to score the game-winner.

There was less drama in the girls game as Mary Chandler Butler and Katya Durocher scored two goals apiece and goalkeeper Emily Johnson capped another shutout. Natalie Markley scored one goal and added an assist while sister Julia Markley also had an assist.

The Lady Saints welcome Lowcountry Prep on Wednesday while the Saints face off with visiting Trinity-Byrnes on Wednesday.

Boys

* Myrtle Beach 3, Socastee 1: The No. 3-ranked Seahawks (14-3-1, 7-0) allowed their first goal in regulation since April 1 but stayed undefeated with a hard-fought win over the No. 8 Braves (10-6-1, 5-2).

Myrtle Beach’s Helgi Nati scored his 15th goal of the season on an assist by Nick Beauchamp, and Adolpho Aguilar scored a pair of goals on assists by Jake Deskins and Helgi. Socastee’s goal came off the foot of Jake Perito.

* North Myrtle Beach 7, Wilson 1: Christian Buis and Austin Bolton scored two goals apiece to lead the Chiefs, and Chance Smith, Brandon Almeida and Caleb Bush added scores in the region victory over the Tigers.

* St. James 2, Georgetown 1: Brandon Wallace and John Astudillo scored goals Andres Celis made an assist to lift the Sharks (9-6-1, 4-3) to a region victory over the Bulldogs.

* Carolina Forest 2, Sumter 1: The Panthers (11-5, 4-2) won a big region match in a shootout after battling to a 1-all draw trough two overtime periods.. Kevin O’Meara scored Carolina Forest’s lone goal in regulation on an assist by Ian McIlrath, one of four Panthers to find the back of the net in penalty kicks.

Girls

* Carolina Forest 5, Sumter 1: Lexi McCarthy scored a hat trick ut 30 minutes into the game and Katelyn Perry added a goal and an assist. Emelyn Hibionada capped the scoring for the Lady Panthers (8-4, 5-1) and Taylor Gazzani had six saves.
