Coastal Classic sees host CAC deliver 44 to podium

cac-coastal-classic-2016Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) hosted its 8th Annual Coastal Classic Invitational Swim Meet over the weekend at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center. More than 330 swimmers participated, including teams from Bluffton, Clemson, Columbia, Florence and Myrtle Beach.

CAC had 78 swimmers participating in this event. By meet’s end, 44 CAC swimmers combined to earn 150 Top 6 finishes and 58 Top 3 finishes.  That list of top-6 swimmers includes:
•    Alexander Kuznetsova:  1st in 100 Free, 1st in 50 Fly, 1st in 50 Free, 1st in 50 Back, 1st in 200 Free,. 2nd in 50 Breast, 2nd in 100 Breast, and 4th in 100 Back.
•    Ryan Eldred:  1st in 100 Fly, 1st in 200 Fly, 2nd in 500 Free, 2nd in 100 Free, 3rd in 200 Back, 3rd in 50 Free, 4th in 400 IM, 4th in 200 Free, and 5th in 100 Back.
•    Taylor Steele:  1st in 200 Breast, 1st in 100 Breast, 4th in 400 IM, 5th in 500 Free.
•    Harrison Clinton:  1st in 400 IM, 2nd in 200 Breast, 2nd in 100 Breast, 2nd in 200 Fly, 3rd in 100 Fly, 3rd in 200 IM, 5th in 50 Free, and 6th in 100 Free.
•    Saman Vitharana:  1st in 50 Free, 2nd in 100 Free, 4th in 50 Fly, 4th in 100 Breast, 4th in 200 Free, and 5th in 50 Breast.
•    Kyran Vitharana:  1st in 25 Breast, 3rd in 25 Free, 3rd in 50 Free, 4th in 50 Breast, 4th in 25 Back, and 6th in 25 Fly.
•    Michael Paglio:  1st in 200 Back, 5th in 100 Fly.
•    Andre Fachin:  1st in 50 Free.
•    Casey Mitchell:  2nd in 400 IM, 2nd in 500 Free, 2nd in 200 Back, 2nd in 100 Back, 5th in 200 Fly, 5th in 200 IM, 6th in 200 Breast, 6th in 100 Fly, and 6th in 100 Breast.

•    Gillian Gatley:  6th in 500 Free, 6th in 200 Free.
•    Ana Christian Patricio:  6th in 400 IM.

CAC also posted three relay wins:  Boys 13-14 200 IM (Dan Hennington, Harrison Clinton, Michael Paglio, and Ryan Eldred), Boy’s 13-14 200 Free (Harrison Clinton, Davey Zevgolis, Rafael Adi, and Ryan Eldred), and Girls 15 and older 200 IM (Kater Wolff, Taylor Steele, Olivia McGonigal, and Kennedy Drew).

In a real treat for those in attendance, CAC coach Fabio da Silva (a 10-time Brazilian National Team member) competed in the 50 Freestyle, tying with CAC swimmer/assistant coach Andre Fachin.   And, fans cheered loudly for Max Wolff, a CAC swimmer with Down’s Syndrome who was recently recognized at the School Carolina High School League Swimming Championships.

Swimmers will work to improve their personal best times as they seek to qualify for States and Sectionals/Regionals over the coming club swim season.  Swimmers carry over state qualifying times from last year assuming they stayed in that age-category or must qualify for a new age-group.  Looking ahead to the upcoming season, CAC will compete in out-of-town meets in Charleston, Clemson, and Columbia.  CAC will also host the Lower-State Palmetto Championship meet in March 2017.
