Coastal hopes to end its low point Saturday at High Point

Coastal Carolina returns to action Saturday night at High Point looking to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 3-0 in Big South Conference play.

High Point enters Saturday’s game with a 4-7 overall record and 0-1 mark in the Big South after dropping its only conference game, 72-62 at Campbell on Dec. 3.

After losing three straight the Panthers have won two of their last three games including an 87-79 win over Wofford College last Wednesday night in High Point, N.C.

The Panthers are led by Big South Preseason All Conference Team member Nick Barbour, who currently ranks third in the Big South conference with 19.1 points per game. Including Barbour High Point has three players averaging double-figures (Shay Shine, 13.7 and Corey Law, 12.3).

As of Dec. 29, Barbour ranks first in the league in 3-point fg pct. (47.7) and 3-pointers made (42)… Law is first in the Big South with 9.0 rebounds per game.

According to Coastal Carolina records, the Chanticleers hold a 17-12 record in the all-time series that began during the 1978-79 season.

Coastal has won the last two games and five of the last six in the series. The last loss was a 69-65 defeat on Feb. 11, 2010 at High Point.

The Panthers hold an 8-6 home record against the Chants. Coastal won the only two meetings last year by 42 combined points.

As of Monday, Dec. 18, Coastal Carolina led the NCAA in field goal percentage (53.3%) and second in the NCAA in rebound margin (+12.3). In addition to ranking 18th in winning percentage (.900), Coastal was 15th in scoring offense and ninth in scoring margin (+20.2).

Coastal Carolina is coming off a 77-70 home loss to the College of Charleston, which went 11-of-24 from long range, handing Coastal Carolina back-to-back regular season losses for the first time since last season. The Chants were blown out at East Carolina three nights earlier.

Anthony Raffa is 104 points from totaling 1,000 in his career. After scoring 271 points as a Freshman at Albany University, Raffa has totaled 625 points in a Chanticleer uniform. The juinor from Sea Isle City, N.J. is leading the team with 18.9 points per game and totaling 896 points in his career.

Sam McLaurin recorded seven rebounds against East Carolina on Dec. 19, which gave him 502 career boards. He is only the third player in CCU history to record at least 500 career rebounds and at least 100 blocked shots. This feat has only been accomplished by 15 players in Big South Conference history.
