Coastal offense rolling into Thursday’s game at Liberty

ccufoot-fadeThe No. 4-ranked Coastal Carolina football team had to hit the ground running this week in order to prepare for Thursday’s trip to longtime rival Liberty for the final meeting as Big South Conference foes.

Fortunately for the Chanticleers, their offense seems to be hitting their stride heading into the showdown with the Flames. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be telecast live on ESPNEWS.

The Chants are coming off  a decisive 45-13 victory over Kennesaw State. Coastal Carolina quarterback Alex Ross, for the second consecutive week, was named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Players of the Week, while Chanticleers’ defensive tackle Jabarai Bothwell has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Ross was additionally named the College Football Performance Awards’ National FCS Performer of the Week and earned honorable mention as the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week.

The Chants have been ranked among the nation’s top 10 the entire season and have been ranked among the top five in 11 of the 12 ranking periods this season, including eight straight weeks as the nation’s top-ranked team in the FCS Coaches’ poll.

Since Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia took over for the 2012 season, Coastal has been:
– ranked #1 for 10 weeks, including eight straight from Sept. 7, 2015 to Oct. 26, 2015
– ranked among the top 25 in 43 consecutive polls
– ranked among the top 25 in 43 of the 56 polls over the span
– ranked among the top 10 in 36 of the last 37 polls
– ranked among the top 5 a total of 28 times
