Coastal signs BC transfer, son of former NFL player

bcfoot-7Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia announced Darrell Malone Jr., and Marcus Outlow have signed with the Chanticleers and are enrolled at the University this January.

Outlow spent the last two seasons as a running back at Boston College. While he can practice this season, he will not be eligible to play per NCAA transfer rules. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining starting with the 2017 season, Coastal’s first year of playing a full NCAA FBS schedule as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

Malone Jr., is a true freshman corner back from Weston, Fla. (Cypress Bay HS). His father, Darrell Malone Sr., played with Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, was selected in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft and played collegiately at Jacksonville State.

Both will be with the squad during spring practices.

Will sit out the 2016 season at Coastal Carolina per NCAA transfer rules and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Played two seasons at Boston College … 2015 (So.): Played in 10 games with starts versus Northern Illinois, Duke and Wake Forest … Rushed for 241 yards on 53 attempts with one touchdown … Also caught four passes for 53 yards … Posted a career-high 15 carries for a season-high 62 yards versus Wake Forest … Added 11 carries for 38 yards versus Duke and 43 rushing yards on five attempts versus Clemson … Had a 32-yard rushing TD in the win over Howard and finished the game with 42 rushing yards … 2014 (Fr.): Played in 12 games as a true freshman, making one start against Louisville … Part of a BC rushing unit that ranked 14th in the nation and second in the ACC with 254.7 yards per game … Finished the season with 243 yards on 59 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per carry … Also caught 11 passes for 103 yards … Notched a career-high 107 rushing yards on 14 carries in the win against Maine, all in the fourth quarter, becoming the first true freshman to rush for 100 yards since 2008 … Scored his first career touchdown on a two-yard reception in the win at Virginia Tech … Recorded 61 yards on 12 carries at No. 1 Florida State … Compiled a career-high three catches for 18 yards against Penn State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl while carrying the ball five times for 15 yards against the Nittany Lions … At Norwich Free Academy: Earned All-America and first team All-Eastern Connecticut Conference Large as well as Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-State honors after he rushed for 1,546 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior in 2013… Garnered All-State honors three times as well as the National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) Overall MVP three times … Tallied 1,483 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior in 2012 … Ranked the No. 1 recruit in Connecticut by ESPN … Also excelled on the basketball court, earning Class LL first team All-State honors after averaging 17.6 points per game as a senior.
