Coastal soccer adds five college transfers to roster

ccusoc-dockingCoastal Carolina University head men’s soccer coach Shaun Docking announced the addition of five student-athletes for the spring semester Wednesday.

Collegiate transfers Fernando Pina, Ryan Reid, Bryan Seefeld, Darius Strambler and Tobbenna Uzo are currently enrolled at Coastal Carolina and have joined the team for offseason workouts.

Fernando Pina

6-0, 180, Goalkeeper

Houston, Texas / Challenge Early College HS / Univ. of Akron

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Enters Coastal as a rising sophomore after spending two seasons at Akron … Redshirted as a true freshman (2012) and did not play collegiate soccer in 2014 … At Akron: 2013 (Redshirt Freshman): All-MAC First Team honoree … Started the first 18 matches of the season, finishing with a record of 14-3-1 and posting eight shutouts and a GAA of 0.62 in 1,731 minutes … Logged three-game shutout streaks twice during the fall … Notched clean sheets against Bowling Green (Sept. 21), Ohio State (Sept. 24) and West Virginia (Sept. 29) in consecutive fashion, then did so again against No. 15 Wake Forest (Oct. 15), Buffalo (Oct. 18) and No. 17 Michigan State (Oct. 23) … Recorded a season-high five saves in a 1-0 victory against the Demon Deacons … Also matched that number in a 2-1 win at Michigan (Oct. 30) … Named MAC Player of the Week on Sept. 30 after posting back-to-back 1-0 shutout wins against Ohio State and West Virginia … 2012 (Freshman): Redshirt season … High School/Club: Ranked 10th-best recruit in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com … Also ranked No. 2 in the state of Texas … Ranked No. 18 by ESPN RISE and No. 26 by College Soccer News … Considered the top goalkeeper recruit in the nation (TDS) … Was one of the leading keepers for the U.S. U-17 team … Competed in the 2011 U-17 World Cup … Started three games, allowing just two goals in 298 minutes during the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship … Earned a shutout in a 1-0 win over Panama … Made seven International appearances in 2011 and allowed just six goals … Regular in U.S. U-15 national team camps in 2009 and was invited into U-17 residency that fall … Was part of the U-14 and U-15 Boys’ National Team programs before joining Residency … Has played with the Houston Dynamo of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy since 2009.

Ryan Reid

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Enters Coastal as a rising junior after spending three seasons at Maryland … Redshirted as a true freshman (2012) … At Maryland: 2014 (Sophomore): Played in four games, with one start against Michigan State (Sept. 19)… Played valuable minutes off the bench and attempted one shot against Michigan (Sept. 12)…Played season-high 45 minutes at Michigan … 2013 (Redshirt Freshman): Made the most of his time on the field, notching one goal in two games played … Tallied his first career goal in a 5-0 win against Marshall (Oct. 15)…Also saw action against Wake Forest (Oct. 19) … 2012 (Freshman): Redshirt season … High School/Club: Competed for Dutchtown and coach Larry Chambliss for five seasons … Led Dutchtown to the Louisiana State Championship in 2009 and 2011 … An all-metro selection four seasons and was a three-time first team all-state selection as well … Also played for Baton Rouge Soccer Club for nine years.

Bryan Seefeld

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Enters Coastal as a rising sophomore after spending two seasons at Saint Louis … Redshirted as a true freshman (2013) and did not see game action in 2014 … High School/Club: Second-team all-Conference honoree and team MVP as a junior at Arrowhead High School … Helped the Warhawks to a 13-7-2 record and a third-place conference finish in the Classic 8 … Was starting goalkeeper for his FC Milwaukee club team.

Darius Strambler

5-11, 165, Forward

Midland, Texas / Lee HS / Lubbock Christian Univ.

ODP Region III member with current rising Chanticleer sophomore Martin Melchor.

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Enters Coastal as a rising sophomore after spending  one season at Lubbock Christian (NCAA Division II) … At Lubbock Christian: 2014 (Freshman): Starter in four of six games played … Finished the season with a goal and two assists, tallying four points … Netted the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Colorado St.-Pueblo (Sept. 7) … Recorded assists against Texas-Permian Basin (Sept. 25) and Eastern New Mexico (Oct. 2) … Attempted 14 total shots with 10 falling on frame … High School/Club: Named the district 2-5A MVP his senior season after netting 17 goals … Competed with the ODP Region III team and also spent time with FC Dallas Premier … Was an all-district selection at wide receiver as a junior.

Tobenna Uzo
