Coastal sweeps XC meet; Flannelly paces MB to win

ccuxc-barefootThe first four runners across the finish line were all Chanticleers. For the third consecutive year, a South African trio took the top three spots for Coastal – Bothma, Aynslee van Graan (17:30) and Kyla van Grann (18:55), while Alesia Muklebust, who came in 10th in last year’s CCU Invitational, improved six places to finish fourth (19:20).

Freshman Alyssa Leclaire, who led the Chanticleers in the season opener with an eighth-place finish, placed sixth with a time of 19:38.UNC Wilmington was runner-up (58 points), followed by The Citadel (73 points) and South Carolina State (98 points). The Division II results were Concord (18) and Coker (45 points).

In the men’s division, Michael Lantz (The Citadel) was the top individual, but Coastal Carolina had four runners place among the top 10 to win the Coastal Carolina Invitational with 27 points, followed by The Citadel (40 points), UNC Wilmington (59 points) and South Carolina State (111 points). Concord won the Division II title with 18 points, followed by Coker (52 points) and St. Andrews (60 points).

Coastal’s Hutson Baumann (15:54) joined winner Lantz as the only runners to finish under 16 minutes.  Josh Small – CCU’s top finisher last season – placed fourth (16:07) while Andrew Southard (16:26) was seventh and Riaz Taylor (16:27) was ninth.

In the high school boys division, Myrtle Beach High freshman Tyler Flannelly captured medalist honors with a time of 18:34 to lead the Seahawks (33 points) to the win over Carolina Forest (38) and Georgetown (50). Carolina Forest’s Jacob Dulson (19:03) finished second, followed by Myrtle Beach’s Miguel Garcia (19:44.47).

In the girls division, North Myrtle Beach’s Wilson Jenerette led all with a time of 21:45, while Georgetown’s Dayanira Toledo (24:50) was medalist to lead the Lady Bulldogs (31) to victory. Myrtle Beach’s Olivia Hull (25:31) was third but the Lady Seahawks (54) finished third behind Carolina Forest (38).
