CCU women settle for tie with Little Rock Trojans

The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team and Little Rock Trojans played two overtimes but neither team could find the back of the net as the contest ended in a scoreless tie.

Coastal, playing its second overtime match of the season, moved to 3-2-1 in conference play, 8-4-1 overall while Little Rock moved to 1-1-2 in Sun Belt action, 6-5-2 overall.

It marked the second straight year the squads tied. Similar to last season’s regular-season matchup, Coastal Carolina and Little Rock ended in double overtime tie (2-2).

The Chanticleer offense was able to out-shoot the Trojans 10-to-5, in the first half, but could not put together the final touches need to find the back of the net.

The Chants continued to be aggressive in the second half, but was out-shot 11-to-10. In the 59th minute Coastal’s Brooke Horist (two shots) had a shot rebound off the post, just barely missing out on putting a tally on the board.

Little Rock had two solid chances with shots rebounding off the crossbar (80:51 by Doro Greulich) and the post in the waning seconds (89:22 by Liesa Seifert) for a missed opportunity.

Both teams created chances during the two overtimes but neither were able to find the back of the net. The Chants out-shot the Trojans in the overtime period 5-to-3.

Kayla Christian ended the day totaling six shots with two on goal. Abby Gashel followed with five shots, three on goal, and both Sunny Sigurvinsdottir and Elisabeth Rockhill each had three shots. Six other Chanticleers each had one shot.

Coastal Carolina will return home on Thursday to host Georgia State at 6 p.m.
