Coastal’s Alexander claims her first professional victory

Coastal Carolina graduate and former women’s golf standout Jessica Alexander claimed her first career professional victory on Saturday, July 20 at the Tennessee Women’s Open Championship presented by the City of Crossville.

Alexander, who entered the final round tied atop the leaderboard, finished the 54-hole tournament with a 2-over 218 final tally to claim the victory by two strokes over a trio of runners-up.

The Lakeview, Fla., native carded rounds of 72-73-73 and notched nine birdies along with 36 total pars over the three days of competition on the 6,106-yard, par-72 Stonehenge Golf Club track.

Alexander’s final round featured three birdies with two coming down the stretch on the par-5 15th and par-4 17th.

Alexander, who claimed a pair of intercollegiate tournament victories, finished her Coastal Carolina career ranked second in the CCU record book with a career scoring average of 75.27. She holds the Chanticleer 54-hole tournament record with an 8-under 208 (70-67-71) at the 2013 M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate.

Alexander competed in three NCAA Regionals and the 2011 NCAA Championship as a Chant. In addition, she is one of three members of Coastal’s hole in one club, recording her ace on the par-3, 186-yard 11th hole at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship.
