Coastal’s Henderson joins Academic All-American list

Coastal Carolina senior Brittany Henderson was named a third team Capital One Academic All-America, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Henderson was selected as a recipient of the award from the at-large category which includes nominated student-athletes from the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

Henderson, who was eligible for the award via earning first team Academic All-District IV honors, has been the recipient of several academic honors this spring and becomes just the second Chanticleer golfer to earn the prestigious honor, joining second team selection Line Cordes (2005).

The Smiths Falls, Ontario, native holds a 3.964 cumulative GPA and is on track to graduate in the fall with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Additionally, she is a member of Coastal’s stellar PGA golf management program.

Henderson was voted the Big South Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year as well as Academic All-Big South; she was also named Academic All-Big South in 2012. Among her peers, Henderson was voted Coastal Carolina’s Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She has been named to the President’s List six times (posting a 4.0 for a semester) and has also earned a trio of Big South Presidential Honor Roll plaudits (posting at least a 3.0 for an academic year).

Henderson’s career has been equally impressive on the course. The senior recently completed her final competition as a Chanticleer, placing 19th (tied) at the NCAA Central Regional in Norman, Okla. In April, Henderson became just the third student-athlete to win multiple Big South Championship individual medalist honors, completing the feat in both 2012 and 2013. In addition, she was named the 2013 Big South Women’s Golfer of the Year by the league’s coaches.

She closed her Chanticleer career as a four-time NCAA Regional participant, only the second in Coastal Carolina history and third in Big South history. In addition, Henderson ranks second all-time in the CCU annals with a single-season scoring average of 73.79 (2012-13) and third with a career scoring average of 75.94. She also holds the Big South Championship low 18 record with a 68 over the final round of play in 2012 along with the low 54-hole score of 214, also in 2012.
