Coastal’s Pierrot picked in second round of MLS draft

After a career which saw him named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Coastal Carolina University’s Frantzdy Pierrot has been selected in the 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids.

The Rapids made Pierrot the fourth pick in the second round and the 27th overall pick of the draft.

Pierott had the opportunity for this past week to perform in front of all 23 MLS teams as one of the invitees to the 2018 Major League Soccer Adidas Player Combine.

While the draft took place in Philadelphia, the Haitian-born and Boston-raised Pierrot stayed with his family and friends in Boston to watch the draft and was able to spend the special moment with them as the announcement was being made.

“It is just an exciting time for me and my family and we were all together at home sharing in my dream together,” Pierrot said. “Colorado is a team that really stood out for me because of the style they play. I am excited they were the team to draft me and to have that confidence in me.”

“I am ready now to work hard and help Colorado get to the playoffs. With them adding me to the roster I am extremely motivated right now. Colorado is an up-and-coming team and I am excited to be a part of that.”

The Rapids finished the 2017 season with a 9-19-6 record, securing 33 points by the end of the season and finishing in 10th place in the Western Conference.

After coaching Pierrot for the past two years, CCU head coach, Shaun Docking saw the dedication Pierrot added to the Chanticleers to help the team become one the top-ranked teams in the country.

“It’s a testament to Frantzdy and our team this year that good opportunities will present themselves with good application, hard work and selfless play,” Docking said. “I am delighted to get another guy drafted from our program into the MLS and another player that has a professional playing opportunity ahead of him.”

“Frantzdy deserves all the credit for leading his team this year into the third round of the NCAA’s and I have no doubt he will be successful with this new venture with the Colorado Rapids!”

Pierrot becomes the 10th CCU player drafted in the MLS SuperDraft and the first since Pedro Ribeiro was drafted in 2014 by the Philadelphia Union in the First Round as the 15th overall draft choice.

With the drafting of Pierrot, Docking has seen five of his players chosen in the MLS SuperDraft in the past seven years.
