Coastal’s Quolas repeats on All-Region softball team

ccusoft-quolaspomFor the second straight season, Coastal Carolina University’s Kiana Quolas has been named to the NFCA Division I All-Region teams, as announced on Thursday.

Quolas was once again selected to the Southeast Region Second Team – this year as a pitcher/utility – becoming the first Coastal Carolina player to repeat All-Region honors in consecutive seasons since Holly Lee and Sarah Lockett in 2000 and 2001.

The NFCA’s Southeast Region is comprised of 28 schools from the Big South, ACC, SEC, Atlantic Sun and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conferences. A total of 13 of those programs are in this year’s NCAA Regionals field, including six teams ranked in the top 16 in the latest NFCA poll – No. 3 Florida State, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Georgia, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 15 Kentucky and No. 16 Missouri.

Quolas also repeated as unanimous Big South Pitcher of the Year after posting a 27-5 record and a 1.29 ERA this season. She ranked 11th in the nation in ERA and tied for 10th with the 27 victories, while cracking the top five in single-season Coastal history for wins, strikeouts and ERA. The 27 wins are the second-most all-time by a Chanticleer and the most since 1991 when Michelle Hall had 32. Quolas recorded 198 strikeouts to rank third in program history for a season, and her ERA is tied for the fourth-lowest at Coastal. She walked just 48 batters over 216.2 innings, held opponents to a .191 average, totaled 29 complete games and recorded seven shutouts, including one no-hitter.

Additionally, Quolas had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 127 combined chances as a pitcher, outfielder and first baseman. At the plate, she batted .291 with six home runs, eight doubles and 34 RBIs.

Quolas is joined on the Southeast Region second team as a pitcher/utility by Georgia’s Geri Ann Glasco. The pitchers are Florida’s Hannah Rogers, Missouri’s Tori Funucane and Anna Miller of 24th-ranked USC Upstate. The pitchers on the Southeast Region’s first team are Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop and Georgia’s Chelsea Wilkinson, along with pitcher/utility Lauren Haeger of Florida. Pitchers on the region’s third team are Tennessee’s Ellen Renfroe and Kentucky’s Kelsey Nunley and Lauren Cumbess (P/UT).

A total of 34 of the 38 Southeast Region players come from SEC and ACC teams. The only other non-SEC or ACC representatives were Longwood catcher Megan Baltzell, a second-team pick, and USC Upstate outfielder Shellie Robinson, a first-team selection.
