Felton leads Mullins past St. James in Beach Ball Classic

feltonJalek Felton scored 37 points to lead Mullins (SC) to a 70-57 victory over St. James (SC) in a consolation bracket game in the 35th Annual Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.

After trailing briefly in the opening minute of the game, Mullins (3-6) scored nine straight points and went on to lead 38-21 at halftime.  The Auctioneers built the advantage to as many as 22 points in the second half before St. James (4-6; Murrells Inlet, SC) used a 14-2 run to close the gap to 48-49 with 5:16 to play on a layup by Jackson Hurston.  That was as close as the Sharks would get as Mullins pushed the lead back to 17 points down the stretch by connecting on 10-of-12 free throws in the final two minutes of play.

Felton, who scored 27 of his game-high 37 points in the opening half, also pulled down 14 rebounds for Mullins.  St. James was led by Zach Werba’s 18 points, while Hurston added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Seton Hall Prep 39, Archbishop Moeller 33 –Seton Hall Prep (NJ) scored a 39-33 victory over Archbishop Moeller (OH) to advance to the semifinal round of the 35th Annual Beach Ball Classic.

Seton Hall Prep (5-0; West Orange, NJ) held the lead for the entire opening 16-minute half, building a 21-11 lead with 1:41 on the clock.  Moeller (7-1; Cincinnati, OH) scored the last five points of the first half as Nate Georgeton connected on a 3-point basket and a short jumper to pull the Crusaders to within five points at 21-16 at the break.

The teams traded baskets to open the second half before a 7-0 spurt capped by Caleb Canter’s driving layup gave Moeller its first lead of the contest with 9:50 to play.  After trading baskets and the lead twice over the next several minutes, Moeller’s Georgeton had a steal and a layup to regain the lead for the Crusaders at 33-31 with 2:48 to play.  Seton Hall Prep responded by scoring the final six points of the contest as Moeller committed three turnovers and missed a pair of jumpers in their final five possessions.

TJ Gibbs led Seton Hall Prep with 13 points while teammate Stephen Ferraro chipped in 12 points for the Pirates.  Seton Hall Prep forced Moeller into 18 turnovers and connected on 12-of-13 free throws as a team.

Moeller was paced by Georgeton’s 11 points.  Trey McBride added 10 points for the Crusaders.

Christian Academy 69, Carvers Bay 66 – The Saints close out 2015 on a 4 game winning streak and their second win in as many days. Led by freshmen Michael Green’s 24 pts & Jay Williams 14pts and Sophomore Jaylen Johnson’s 14 pts and Senior Bernard Jones leadership on the floor and 9 pts,4 rebs, 4 assts & 4 steals the Saints fought back from 15 to zero start to defeat Carvers Bay.
