Five Carolina teams named NTBA national champions

ntba-heateliteThe National Travel Basketball Association crowned 17 national champions on Sunday at gymnasiums throughout the Grand Strand, and several teams from the Carolina captured titles in their respective divisions.

More than 300 boys basketball teams competed in 10 different age divisions, each with a Gold and Silver bracket. The teams played for four days, beginning with pool play and wrapping up with a single-elimination tournament.

The Charlotte Nets claimed the championship of the Ninth Grade Silver division with a hard-fought win over the in-state rival Fayetteville Stars. The NC Courage took the Eighth Grade Silver bracket, the Wilmington Waves won a 52-50 barn-burner in the title game, and the Durham Bullz All-Starz also went to the wire to win the Sixth Grade Silver tourney.

Among South Carolina teams, the Fourth Grade Gold championship went to the Chesterfield Jayhawks for their 41-36 victory over the Capital City Vipers. Championship game results are as follows:
