Seahawks rally past Braves

Myrtle Beach rallied from a 21-14 first-half deficit to score 24 unanswered points to end the game and claim a 38-21 victory over rival Socastee on Friday night.

Seahawks co-quarterback Tyler Keane threw four touchdown passes, including the final three that helped Myrtle Beach knock off their region rivals, the Braves.

Keane hooked up with Trell Harrell for the second time in the game to tie the score at 21-all at halftime. He hit Tramond Wilson for a 21-yarder in the third quarter to reclaim the lead, then found Sean Michael Orcutt in the fourth quarter to cap the Seahawks’ comeback. Max Huggins added a 24-yard field goal to cap the scoring.

The Seahawks (6-1 overall, 2-0 Region VIII-AAA) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring on touchdown passes from Keane and co-QB C.J. Cooper. Keane hit Harrell for a 13-yard TD on their first drive and Cooper found Daquarius Wilson for a 46-yard TD pass, making it look like another easy night for Myrtle Beach.

But the game quickly turned at the start of the second quarter, when Socastee scored three TDs in about a 3-minute span. Adam Crane scored from 1 yard out to start the second period, then the Braves (2-5, 1-1) forced Myrtle Beach into a three-and-out.

Hunter Renfrow returned the punt 85 yards for the tying TD, then an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty allowed Socastee to onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. The Braves recovered the kick and quarterback Jordan Renfrow scored from 2 yards out to make it 21-14 Socastee.

But the Seahawks rallied to tie it up before halftime on Keane’s second TD pass to Harrell, this time a 25-yarder for a 21-all tie at the half. The Seahawks defense locked down Socastee’s option attack late and Myrtle Beach took advantage of good field position on offense to pull away from the Braves in the end.

Cooper completed 13-of-15 passes for 211 yards and a TD while Keane connected on 12-of-16 for 138 yards and four TDs.

Myrtle Beach plays host to St. James next week while Socastee travels to Georgetown.
