Soccer: Sharks sweep MC; CF drops two to Socastee

socgsoc-12sjThe No. 2-ranked St. James High girls soccer team bounced back from a tough loss to Myrtle Beach by shutting out visiting Marlboro County 8-0 on Tuesday.

Following last week’s 5-4 loss, the first of the season for the Lady Sharks (6-1, 3-1 Region 7-4A), St. James got back on track in its quest for the region title by posting its sixth shutout of the season.

Haley Brandon recorded a hat trick and Coral Holt added a pair of goals to lead the offense. Lexi Lemons, Lindsey Williams and Stephanie Cumez also added goals, and the defense held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless.

St. James plays host to Wilson on Friday.

* North Myrtle Beach 6, Wilson 1: Freshman Emma Delaney and junior Hadley Hudson tallied two goals and one assist apiece to lead the Lady Chiefs offensively.

Jenna Berger scored the other two goals and assists were provided by Cassey Nicholl, Jordan Berger, and Krista Drozdowski.

Goalkeeper Jordan Hernandez posted a second half shutout with eight saves and Montana Fields made three saves.

* Christian Academy 7, King’s Academy 0: The Lady Saints improved to 2-0 in region play by shutting out King’s Academy.

Tete Jones scored a pair of goals and Natalie Markley, Julia Markley, Bimpe Oduwole, Alexis Hildenbrandt, and Mary Addison Davis also scored goals while the Lady Saints defense did the job for the shutout.

* Socastee 5, Carolina Forest 1: The Lady Braves scored a big region win on the road by downing the rival Lady Panthers on their home field.

Boys

* St. James 13, Marlboro County 0: The No. 2-ranked Sharks spread the ball around as 13 different players found the back of the net on the night.

St. James Luke Williams, Garrett Greene, Addison Bryant, Dalton Arseneau, Bryce Terhart, Joey Barrientos, Will Weinrauch, Raphael Carr, Toni Zepot, Alan Murawski, Alex Holmes, Logan Bridges and Andrew Broom all scored goals on the night.

St. James goalkeeper Max Davila had three saves in posting the shutout.

* Socastee 7, Carolina Forest 0: The Braves shut out the Panthers to remain undefeated in Region 6-5A play.

* North Myrtle Beach 2, Wilson 0: The Chiefs shut out the visiting Tigers.
