After a tough opening round at the Crescent Cup girls soccer tournament in Columbia, Grand Strand teams bounced back with big wins Saturday in a 32-team soccer marathon.
After falling 5-3 to Wade Hampton on Friday, Carolina Forest returned on Day 2 to defeat Northwestern 2-1, and battle Broome to a 0-0 draw. The Lady Panthers erased a one-goal halftime deficit against Northwestern as Abbie McCoy assisted Katie Kulick for the tying goal, then scored the game-winner about 10 minutes later.
St. James suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Wade Hampton in Friday’s first round but bounced back for a pair of shutout wins on Saturday. The Lady Sharks blew out Ben Lippen 9-0, and edged South Strand rival Waccamaw 1-0 in their second game Saturday.
Myrtle Beach dropped its opener to Wren by a 3-1 score but bounced back to beat May River 7-0 on Saturday. The Lady Seahawks suffered a 6-1 loss to Indian Land.
