Despite playing in cold conditions in recent days, the Myrtle Beach boys golf team stayed hot in winning a three-team match Tuesday at Wachesaw East.
The Seahawks won the weather-shortened Aynor Blue Jacket Classic on Sunday before returning to the links Tuesday in untypically cool temperatures. But that didn’t stop the Seahawks foursome from all firing nine-hole scores in the 30s en route to a team tally of 147, beating St. James (160) and Georgetown (203).
Defending individual state champion Holden Grigg tied Sharks senior captain Coleman Bess for medalist honors with a pair of 36s. Myrtle Beach’s Keegan Vaugh, Dock Jarman and Dalton Todd carded identical 37s, and No. 5 player Mike Yan shot 39.
St. James junior standout Charlie Wike shot a solid 37, followed by Walker Devers (41) and Hunter Satterley (46). Georgetown was led with 43 and 45 by Trace Adams and James Gore, respectively.
On Sunday, Myrtle Beach won its second tournament of the year with a total of 312, followed by Lancaster and Wando. St James finished fourth, North Myrtle Beach placed seventh, and Carolina Forest finished eighth. Myrtle Beach was led by second medalist Dock Jarman (74), and all-tournament team members Keegan Vaugh (76) and Holden Grigg (77) Michael Yan shot 85.
